SINOPSIS

Some fingerprint authentication systems are applied in embedded

systems, combining hardware and software designed for specific

functions  in  a  particular  device.    The  systems  consist  of  a

microcontroller,  fingerprint  sensor,  secure  access  control,  and

human interface. As many users often access this system, there is a

chance that the system will be replicated and modified by attackers.

For this reason, fingerprint template protection (FTP) is needed so

that  authentication  is  secured  from  attacks.  Most  existing  FTP

schemes  failed  to  meet  all  the  desired  properties  of  the  ideal

fingerprint  authentication  system  (FAS),  such  as  diversity,

revocability, security, and matching/recognition performance due

to the problem of intra-user variability in fingerprint identifiers and

matching problem in the plain domain. Therefore, this study aims

to enhance the existing schemes by using chaos-based encryption

and  hash  function  to  meet  the  specified  properties  by  securing

users’ fingerprint template (FT) within the smart home embedded

systems.  An  improved  chaos-based  encryption  algorithm  was

proposed for encrypting FT.
